Kindergarten in an Early Learning Centre
Kindergarten is an important time for children, helping them to prepare for school by developing strong social skills, enhancing physical health and emotional wellbeing, establishing foundational concepts in literacy, numeracy, science, creativity and encouraging a lifelong love of and interest in learning.
At Little Village, we provide an Education Queensland approved Kindergarten Program that is housed within a long day care setting. This has many benefits for children and families.
Nutritious meals are provided - morning and afternoon tea and a home cooked lunch, so you can be assured your active and growing child’s nutritional needs are being looked after.
Our programs are guided by the nationally approved and recognised curriculum – Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (QKLG).
Our teacher is a Bachelor Degree qualified early childhood specialist, with the same qualifications and experience as teachers working within community kindergartens and primary schools. Our support Educators hold qualifications including Certificate 3 or Diploma in Early Childhood Education. The depth of experience and qualifications ensure that your children participate in a learning environment rich with learning experiences specifically designed to prepare them for the transition to school.
We provide kindergarten over longer hours. Unlike community kindergartens that only offer sessional care, Little Village Kindergarten program is delivered for 7.5 hours per day ensuring that every child enrolled has access to the government recommended 15 hours per week.
We recognise that working families need a program that suits their working hours and individual needs. At Little Village, you can choose the days of the week you prefer, 52 weeks per year.
Kindergarten aged children can still be a part of their younger sibling’s day when they attend the same centre. This strengthens family bonds as well as making life so much easier for parents, with just the one drop off and pick up destination.
For younger children attending Little Village, transitioning to our Senior Pod, (Pre-kindy and Kindy) is a big step. This is done in a supportive manner with a peer group where the children have already formed close relationships, making a smoother transition for all children. Most of the children enrolled in our programs will attend the same local schools together.
The Kindergarten program at Little Village maintains strong connections with the local schools in the community. This enables the children to participate in transition to school excursions when the time is right. These visits might include:
- Library visits for a shared story experience
- Tuckshop/canteen visit to share a meal
- A visit to the school Prep classrooms and playgrounds to become familiar with their new “big school” surroundings.
- A visit to our Kindergarten studio from the relevant local school Prep teachers to become familiar with their new students.
These visits are planned in collaboration with parents and the school community to ensure that our kindergarten children are supported in the most relevant manner.
Little Village Kindergarten is approved for Child Care Subsidy and is approved under the Queensland Kindergarten Funding Scheme enabling eligible families to access additional assistance with fees.
